Beloit Memorial’s boys soccer team edged Waunakee 2-1 Thursday night to match its best start ever at 9-1-1.

The Purple Knights were also 9-1-1 in 2014 when they went to the WIAA State Tournament.

Beloit took a 1-0 lead when Jared Barajas played a great ball through to Eduardo Gonzalez-Terrero whose shot easily beat the Warrior goalie in the 20th minute. Beckham Denu made two clutch saves to maintain that lead through halftime.

Waunakee tied it in the second half, but Beloit retook the lead for good in the 62nd minute when a ball found Banks Denu in the box. Banks beat two defenders and found the back of the net.
