Beloit Memorial's Jaslyn Gama Off To State Meet After Taking Third in 400

Beloit Memorial track and field’s Jaslyn Gama has been wrapping up her senior season by putting up some great times again and again in her races.

The senior has run herself all the way into the WIAA Division 1 State Track and Field Championships after she finished third at the 400-meter dash in Thursday’s sectional meet in Beaver Dam.

Gama finished in 1:01.66 behind the Janesville Parker duo of Harper Brandenburg (59.39) and Mya Barnes (59.97). The result came after she placed third in the Stoughton regional with a PR of 1:01.09. She also was eighth in the 300 hurdles (52.18).

Junior Jaedyn Coleman PR’d in the discus by three feet but it wasn’t enough as his distance of 151-feet, six-inches put him fifth place. He was seventh in the shot put (45-5).

The girls’ 4x100 relay of Naima Brooks, Kori Burnett, Essence Coleman and Antonia Mance finished in seventh (53.10).

Slinger won as a team on the girls’ side with 92 points while Oconomowoc’s boys were first with 91.50.

The state meet will be held on Friday-Saturday, May 31-June 1 at UW-La Crosse.

 WIAA DIVISION 2 BIG FOOT SECTIONAL: In Walworth, the Cougars’ Owen Douglas broke out the broom as he swept the throwing events by qualifying for the state meet in both the shot put and the discus.

Douglas finished second in the shot put with a throw of 50-feet, 9-inches while his throw of 135-feet, 3-inches placed him third in the discus.

Big Foot’s Kaden Rambatt secured yet another first-place finish and will make his fourth-straight appearance at the state meet after he won the pole vault with a PR height of 16-feet, 3-inches.

The Chiefs’ girls will also send their 4x100 relay of Elliana Pape, Allie Stankevitz, Lydia Farence and Ava Schoonover to the state championships after they placed fourth (50.83).

 WIAA DIVISION 2 PORTAGE SECTIONAL: It was a good day to be a Terrell as Elijah Terrell finished second in the triple jump and fourth in the 200 to qualify for state in two events while Navana Terrell advanced with her second place in the shot put.

Elijah Terrell ran a 22.34 in the 200 and leaped a distance of 44-feet, 9.5-inches in the triple jump. His time of 11.21 was sixth in the 100 and he was sixth in the long jump (20-7).

Navana Terrell threw the shot put 38-feet, 1.5-inches. Cherish Smith took fifth and PR’d in the 200 (26.65) to just miss out on advancing to state.

 WIAA DIVISION 3 HORICON SECTIONAL: Parkview senior Karson Redman advanced in two events while the girls’ team are sending on one athlete from the track and another from the field.

Redman was third in the 400 (52.13) and fourth in the long jump (20-7), and he recorded a PR in both of those events.

Loralei Arnold continued her stellar freshman year as she finished first in the pole vault (10-3) and Sahara Boers-Augustine ended third in the 400 (1:01.63).
