BELOIT — A pile of piping was hoisted by a crane to the third-floor roof area of Beloit Memorial High School on Thursday as part of a two-year upgrade of the school’s heating and cooling system.

Workers from Mared Mechanical Contractors were placing the piping on the roof of the school in preparation for the installation of new chillers and air handling units, said Tommy Bricco, director of facilities for the School District of Beloit.

The school district contracted Nexus Solutions for an entire upgrade of Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) equipment in the school and the two-year project is expected to be complete in June when the new chillers will be installed on the roof.

The $5 million project is being paid for thanks to Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Funds (ESSER Funding), Bricco said.

Nexus workers have made HVAC and automation upgrades throughout the building. Last summer workers were installing wiring as well as updates to control panels. Also a platform where the new chiller will be installed on the roof was put in place, Bricco said.
