Just under a month before the start of the new school year, the School District of Beloit has named its new interim superintendent.

At its meeting Tuesday night, the district’s school board voted 6-1 to appoint Dr. Wayne Roger Anderson to the position. In a news release, the district said Anderson has served as a superintendent for 26 years, most recently in Williams Bay and Mount Horeb.

While his official start date is Tuesday, Theresa Morateck, the district’s executive director of teaching, learning and equity, will serve as superintendent designee while Anderson is working remotely, the release said.

The district’s former superintendent, Dr. Daniel Keyser, accepted a new job in May as the district administrator for the Stoughton Area School District. Keyser had served as the School District of Beloit’s interim superintendent for eight months before dropping the interim designation effective in July 2021.

In a letter to families last month, the district said it planned to hire an interim superintendent by the beginning of August to “guide and lead our District through the remainder of the summer and help us to get the new school year started well, working with District staff and our Board, until a superintendent is selected.”
