Multicultural Children’s Book Day

  • Multicultural Children’s Book Day 2019 (1/25/19) is in its 6th year and was founded by Valarie Budayr from Jump Into A Book and Mia Wenjen from PragmaticMom. Their mission is to raise awareness of the ongoing need to include kids’ books that celebrate diversity in homes and school bookshelves while also working diligently to get more of these types of books into the hands of young readers, parents and educators.

  • I was proud to be a reviewer for Multicultural Children’s Book Day 2019. I was sent "Home: Casa" from the actual author Sandra Elaine Scott. I was so honored and delighted to read such a powerful and funny book.

"This book is a beautifully crafted story. Written in Spanish and English, “Home: Casa” by Sandra Elaine Scott is powerful story about a families’ love while they enter a new chapter of life. Mia is excited when she learns her grandmother is moving in with them and prepares everything she will need. She slowly realized how her grandmother is sad about the new stage of her life and what grandma had to leave behind. It is heartwarming and comical how the entire family comes together to find their new path together. My daughter laughed at the antics of Coco and I cried knowing the realization about how the roles of life can quickly change and kids are all of a sudden taking care of their elderly parents. A must read for families." #readyourworld #BooksBuildBrilliantBrains #Beloit'sLiteracyForLifeInitiative
