  • Do you really have an all-day every day 4K program?

    Yes! We started our Monday through Friday all-day 4K program in 2012.  The 4K students in are our elementary buildings and run on the same time schedule and calendar as the school.

  • Does my child need to go to school everyday?

    Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school and themselves. Kids will learn early on that going to school on time, every day is important. It is important that students build the habit of daily school attendance beginning in 4K. Students can begin to fall behind even if they miss just a day or two every few weeks.

  • Must children be toilet trained to participate in the all-day 4K program?

    Children are not required to be toilet trained to participate in the program. Children will not be turned away if they are not toilet trained. All children in this age group have accidents. It is smart to have a change of clothing in their backpack.  Each classroom has a teacher and para educator to help students with the bathroom.  Teachers will start to work with families right away on the toilet traning process.

  • Can SDB accept children who live in another school district?

    Four-year-olds who reside outside the school district may follow the Open Enrollment process only if their home district offers a 4-year-old Kindergarten program.

  • How will parents be informed about the details of 4K?

    There is an strategic communication plan to share information with the Beloit community, including information on how to enroll in 4K. This includes  informational fliers, school newsletters, social media, websites, public service announcements, and through community partners.

  • What is the required teacher-to-child ratio for a 4K classroom?

    DPI does not have a required child/teacher ratio for 4K. School District of Beloit has approximately a 1:11 ratio.

    Students must be 4 years old on or before September 1.  SDB Does have an application process in place for early entrance to 4K. SDB Early Admission Link

  • Is 4K required?

    Enrollment in 4K is not required by the state of Wisconsin. A law took effect on October 21, 2009 (WI Act 41) requiring attendance for five-year-olds enrolled in kindergarten. 4K attendance is optional and is not affected by this new law.

  • Can parents bring provide snacks for the 4K classroom?

    Yes, parents can bring in healthy snacks . This is currently being done in many classrooms. If parents do provide a snack, they will need to follow prescribed classroom and school guidelines.  There may be classrooms that are designated as "Peanut Free" and/or "Tree Nut Free" classrooms.

  • Is there a fee for 4K?

    The 4K program is tuition free; however, there is a $25 materials fee families pay at the beginning of the school year.

  • When can families enroll?

    For the 2019-20 school year, enrollment opens February 4th. Parent/Guardians can enroll at the Kolak Education Center at 1633 Keeler Avenue in the Central Enrollment Office. Central Enrollment Link

  • What record keeping is required in 4K?

    Each school is responsible for creating and maintaining a student cumulative file that includes student enrollment information (including immunizations and age verification), documentation of parent conferences, an end of the year cumulative report, and documentation of student assessment. Materials and forms for this file are provided by the School District of Beloit. Attendance for families can be found on Skyward.

  • What school supplies do parents need to purchase?

    The School District of Beloit will have a supply list available and teachers will communicate with parents should something be needed additionally.

    State equalization aid is the primary source of funding. 4K students also generate a Title 1 allocation.

  • Will transportation be provided?

    4K students receive the same services as all other elementary students. Students are bussed if are 1 mile away from the school site.  Parents who select a different school outside of their attendance area for their child are responsibe for transportation.
