    Seal-A-Smile
Did you know that although dental cavities are largely preventable, they remain the most common chronic disease among children aged 6-ll years and adolescents aged 12-19 years?  In fact, tooth decay is four times more common than asthma (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015).  The School District of Beloit is embarking on its 6th year of partnership with Community Health Systems of Wisconsin, in accordance with the Children's Health Alliance of Wisconsin, to provide a preventive dental sealant program, Seal-A-Smile, for our students.  The services are provided in your child's school by a licensed dentist, dental hygienist, and dental assistant.  In the 2015/16 school year, approximately 1,946 students participated in the Seal-A-Smile program with 4,569 sealants being applied... In the 2016/2017 school year 2,021 students participated in the Seal-A-Smile Program and 2,528 teeth were sealed!!  Over the last three years 10,323 potential fillings have been avoided for our Beloit School District Children!

Each school year, dental services will take place from October through May and will serve ALL students enrolled in the School District, 4K - 12th grade.  To help cover program costs, Seal-A-Smile will bill Badger Care, Wisconsin Medicaid, or any private insurance carrier.  However, you will NOT have to pay any deductibles or co-pays for this program.  In addition, NO student will be refused services based on their ability to pay.  The treatment your child will receive in this program is not meant to be an alternative to regular dental care.  It is strongly recommended that you seek out a dental home (family dentist) for routine dental care, including any follow up care that may be recommended after your child has completed the School-Based oral health program.  This program includes:
    • Dental Screening Exam
    • Dental Cleaning with Fluoride Treatment
    • Fluoride Varnish
    • Sealants (if needed)
    • Free Toothbrush
    • Tooth brushing instruction and oral health education
    • A letter sent home explaining what services were done and suggestions for further treatment
Please contact your school nurse to find out when Seal-A-Smile will be in your school!

Here is the link that will allow you to sign your child up for the Seal-A-Smile program. This information will directly go to the Beloit Area Community Health Center Seal-A-Smile workers. They will then be able to visit with your child when they are at their school to assess if they have any dental needs, place fluoride to help protect their teeth, place protective sealants on their molars if indicated, receive a new toothbrush, and a letter home to let you know about the visit. "Seal-A-Smile staff will visit with your child three times throughout this school year for maximum oral health prevention."
