Symphony/String Orchestra
Symphony Orchestra is for students in grades 10-12 and meets every day for 65 minutes. Our repertoire (the music we play) includes music from many musical time periods, from Classical, Baroque, and Romantic to modern, fiddle, jazz, improv, and other alternative styles. In this orchestra we focus preparing and performing higher level repertoire, as well as on developing higher level technique, skills, and musical knowledge. Members of Symphony Orchestra will perform in four concerts per year, and participate in High School Orchestra Festival at UW-Whitewater. Select students will participate in Honors Orchestra at UW-Whitewater.
String Ensemble
String Ensemble is for students in grade 9 and meets every day for 50 minutes. Our repertoire (the music we play) includes music from many musical time periods, from Classical, Baroque, and Romantic to modern, fiddle, jazz, improv, and other alternative styles. Though String Ensemble performs in four concerts per year, the main focus of the ensemble is the development of string/music technique, skill, and knowledge.
Chamber Orchestra
Chamber Orchestra is a small string ensemble that meets before school at 2-3 days per week. Members of this ensemble will be selected through auditions. All students may audition to be part of Chamber Orchestra. In Chamber Orchestra the focus is preparation and performance of chamber music. The ensemble, or select members, will perform in a variety of venues throughout the year including orchestra concert, solo and ensemble, and gigs (includes weddings, community events, and school district events, some are paid performances).
Beginning Orchestra
In Beginning Orchestra we focus on learning the basic technique and knowledge required to play orchestra instruments. This course is designed for any music student wishing to learn to play an orchestra instrument (violin, viola, cello, or bass) or any string student wishing to learn a second string instrument. Students will learn at least one string instrument over the course of the class. School-owned instruments and method books will be used unless a student owns the instrument they wish to learn. Prerequisite: knowledge of how to read at least one clef of music.
