School Closings

  • In the School District of Beloit, the safety and security of our students and staff is our number one priority. While we will make every effort to keep our schools open throughout the school year, situations such as severe weather may make it necessary to close schools for the overall safety of our students and staff.

The decision to close school due to inclement weather is complex and may depend on the following:

    • Conditions for our students who walk to school
    • How long can a student wait safely at a bus stop for a bus that could be delayed?
    • What will be the consequences for passengers if a bus should break down in the extreme weather?
    • The ability for all staff and school bus drivers to report for work on time
    • The stability of weather predictions throughout a school day

The School District of Beloit works with the city of Beloit and relies on a myriad of sources including regional school districts, local news, weather apps, and forecasts to decide whether to cancel school due to inclement weather.

Notification about school closings or delays will be sent to parents and guardians through our Blackboard Messenger System. Please be sure that your parent/guardian contact information is accurate and up-to-date including phone numbers and email addresses. Contact your child(ren)’s school to confirm all information is correct.

Please note that when schools are closed all before and after-school activities will be cancelled, as well. We will do our best to post all information related to inclement weather closings before 6:00 am.

We will also post notifications of any school closings on:

    On Our Website
    WCLO 1230am Radio

And several local television stations including WKOW, WMTV, WTVO, WIFR and WREX.

Parents and Guardians always have the final decision on whether or not to send their child(ren) to school during inclement weather. If you do decide to keep your child(ren) home on a day when school is in session, please make sure to contact your child(ren)’s school office to report the absence.
