So many great things have been happening in music class already this year! I am enjoying getting to know the kids better and watching them grow musically. Thank you for sending me such eager learners!
Kindergarten and 4K students have been practicing keeping a steady beat on Sound Shape drums, rhythm sticks and egg shakers. The students have been having a great time singing “Apple on a Stick” while putting on a show with their “caramel apples”.
First graders are already working on reading quarter notes and quarter rests. This is a big deal to them! Ask your child to sing “Bluebird” and tell you about the blue scarves they have been using to “fly” around like a bird.
Second grade has added in half notes and half rests along with the rhythms they learned in first grade and kindergarten. They are singing “Are You Sleeping”, “Row Row, Row your Boat” & “White Sand, Gray Sand” while reading the songs on the Smartboard. They have been playing hand drums, sound shapes and rhythm sticks while practicing their new rhythms.
Third grade has added in the reading of whole notes and whole rests. They are singing the African American Spirituals: “Train is A Comin”, “My Father’s House” and “Follow the Drinking Gourd”. We are reading a few pages of the book “Follow the Drinking Gourd” every day in class. They will be studying Symphony No.14 “Moonlight Sonata” composed by, Ludwig van Beethoven in 1802.
ATTENTION: THE STUDENTS' CONCERTS WILL BE IN THE SPRING THIS YEAR. ALL STUDENTS WILL PERFORM AT SOME POINT BEFORE SPRING BREAK. I WILL POST THE EXACT DATES AND TIMES ONCE THEY ARE SET. INFORMATION WILL ALSO BE POSTED ON THE "ROBINSON ELEMENTARY MUSIC EDUCATION" FACEBOOK PAGE.
