BMHS's Joshua Martinez Marte Throws PR in Sectionals
Mukwonago, Wis. - You may have heard the phrase "army of one." Beloit Memorial senior Josh Martinez Marte was a track team of one on Thursday.
The lone Purple Knight to advance out of the WIAA Division 1 Badger Regional on Monday, he competed in two events at Thursday's Mukwonago Sectional.
While Martinez Marte intends on playing football at Beloit College next fall, he may want to give track coach Brian Bliese his number, too. After throwing a personal best 132-feet 9 inches in the discus on Monday, he tossed it 140-11 in the sectional competition to finish fifth.
The only throwers ahead of him were first place Bryze Ruland of Waterford, who threw a monster 202-4, as well as Ethan Willman of Mukwonago (147-4), Jackson Mankowski of Madison La Follette (146-11) and Griffin Empey of Stoughton (143-10).
Martinez Marte didn't fare quite as well in the shot put. He had thrown 47-11 in Lake Geneva, but threw 44-7.25 at the sectional. He finish eighth. Nathan Roy of Mukwonago won the event with a heavy 60-feet.
