Laube is Advocate for Children, Learning: Inducted into The Beloit Historical Society Hall of Fame

Seven people will be inducted into the Beloit Historical Society’s Hall of Fame during ceremonies set for 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13 at the Historical Society Museum, 845 Hackett St.

This year’s honorees include Jim and Cheryl Caldwell, Charles Hart, Regina Dunkin, Cindy Laube and VetsRoll, which was founded by Mark and John Finnegan.

The Beloit Historical Society has been honoring Beloit residents who have made significant contributions to making Beloit a better place to live, work and play since 1938. There have been more than 300 people inducted into the Hall of Fame over the years.

The Daily News will feature inductees in each issue of the paper this week leading up to the induction ceremony.

Cindy Laube

Cindy Laube is an advocate for early childhood literacy and learning and has been active in organizations serving young children in the Beloit area.

Laube is the coordinator of the School District of Beloit Even Start Family Literacy Program. Even Start is a collaboration between the School District of Beloit and Blackhawk Technical College. The program has the whole family attending class.

Laube has a passion for family literacy and she loves building relationships with the Even Start families. Laube also is a volunteer with the Even Start Dancers.

She also enjoys her volunteer work with the Literacy for Life initiative, which seeks to prepare children for the early learning experience before they enter kindergarten.

She also has volunteered with the Girl Scouts of the Badger Council in many roles from 1980 to 2016. She also volunteered with the Boy Scouts from 1999 to 2016.

She also serves as vice president of the executive committee for the Welty Environmental Center, which offers year-round programs for people all ages.

Laube began her teaching career in the School District of Beloit in the 1970-71 school year. She taught 5-year-old kindergarten, 4-year-old kindergarten and 3-year-old preschool.

She joined the Even Start staff in 1991.

She received the Barbara Hickman Beyond Expectations Award in May of 2014. She received the Literacy for Life First Steps Award in 2022. She received the Youth2Youth Positive Change Maker Award in 2012. In April of 2023, she received the Tony Baez Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing her many years of outstanding leadership and advocacy to bilingual education.
