    • ABC Playgroups are a new addition to Beloit Elementary Schools.  A group of 8-10 children and their families are invited to play once a week with a volunteer from the Beloit Public Library.  These groups include a story time followed by crafts and games.  These playgroups have been shown to boost early literacy skills in a fun, family oriented, play-based environment.  Family resources are also available.  Fall ABC Playgroups run from October 6 - December 15.  Check out our registration page here and contact Megan Miller with any questions at

Welcome to Merrill Elementary! Merrill is a K4 through 3rd grade school located at 1635 Nelson Avenue. We set high expectations for our students and have an incredible staff and parent organization that support these expectations (we had the highest test scores in the past five years in the 12-13 School Year).

We are a SAGE school which means our classes are 18 students to one teacher or 30 students to two teachers. The small class sizes allow for more individual attention and differentiation for our students. Students are expected to read for twenty minutes every night and they are also able to access the computer programs Odyssey and First and Math at home to practice their Math skills. Students receive 90 minutes of Reading instruction daily in addition to a 30-45 minute Reading Intervention class which provides enrichment and support for students. Students also receive 60 minutes of Math instruction in addition to a 30 minute Math Intervention class. We are very proud of the gains we have made in Reading and Math and look forward to continuing to take it to the next level.

Students are able to participate in Student Council, our after school program (MSELC), Kickball, Basketball, Cub Scouts, and Destination Imagination as a few examples. Students also receive instruction in Art, Music, P.E. (we have a new climbing wall which was just added to our gym) and Library.

Merrill is a diverse school where students work together and learn about one another. We are a school that fully incorporates PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention System); this means we teach expected behavior to students and then positively reinforce it in a variety of ways. We know how to celebrate success and students can be heard chanting our ROAR cheer at each of our assemblies. In fact, we were recognized as a School of Distinction by the Wisconsin PBIS Network for the 11-12 and 12-13 School Years!

We are proud Merrill Tigers and we have only just begun!
