School District of Beloit November 2023 Highlights

Honoring our SDB Veterans

We honored and celebrated our Veterans at the School District of Beloit. We thanked them for their 168 years of combined service to our country. We are grateful for their bravery, dedication, and the sacrifices they made for our country.

The Increscent

Congratulation to the BMHS student newspaper, The Increscent, recipient of the Kettle Moraine Press Association, First Place award for 2022-2023. Here’s to the staff!! The managing editor is Llani Froeber. Section editors are Amya King, Alexis Thomas, Amara Nelson, Naianna Burks, Grace Thompson, Sal Eaton, and Jadyn Gibson. Our web editor is Stefany Zamora. Special Thanksgiving Podcast

Mrs. Marietta and her 3rd grade class from Hackett Elementary School joined our podcast for a special Thanksgiving Episode. Each student shared what they were thankful for this year and some of them also shared how they think you should cook a turkey. Listen to the Podcast today.

All-Conference Team

Congratulations to our student-athletes named to the Southern Lakes Conference All-Conference Team! Our student-athletes excel on and off the field, court, and terrain. Let’s give it up for Sarah Ramsden (Golf), Lisa Rasmden (Tennis), Jillian Traver (Tennis), Abby Middleton (Tennis), Jaslyn Gama (Cross Country), Aidan Greenlee (Cross Country), Beckham Denu (Soccer), Banks Denu (Soccer), John Anthony Aburto (Soccer), Diego Gama (Soccer), and Essence Coleman (Volleyball).

Homeless Youth Awareness Month

Thank you City of Beloit City Council, for recognizing the School District of Beloit, Project 16:49, and BATFoH with a Proclamation declaring November as Homeless Youth Awareness Month in the City of Beloit. In the Proclamation, the City Council thanked these three organizations for supporting homeless youth in our community, and they urged everyone to volunteer, donate, and raise awareness about the invaluable work carried out by local organizations working towards ending youth homelessness. Accepting on behalf of the School District of Beloit was Melissa Beavers, on behalf of Project 16:49 was Tammy DeGarmo, and on behalf of BATFoH was Ann Sitrick.

Oral Health Workforce Day - Career Exploration

Our students were introduced to careers in the dental health professions including dentist, dental hygienist, dental assistant, and lab tech. Students enjoyed hands-on activities while learning about dental training programs – so happy that Tre-Anna Metzger, Araceli Gonzalez-I’Barra, Angelina Hernandez, Alexa Martinez-Plata, Ma’Layiah Citchen, Destiny Pinson, Jasmine Giles, and Cashiya Johnson took advantage of this opportunity. Our graduates are career, college, and community ready. Thanks and a Shout-Out to HealthNet of Rock County Inc. and Blackhawk Technical College for hosting this event.

WAEE 2023 Administrator of the Year

Aldrich Principal, Joe Vrydaghs, was named the recipient of the 2023 Administrator of the Year award by the Wisconsin Association for Environmental Education (WAEE). WAEE strives to acknowledge and encourage outstanding individuals and groups in their contributions to the field of environmental education. Joe’s commitment to our Aldrich student’s academic success and exposure and opportunities to learn about environmental science is commendable. He appreciates that the Welty Environment Center is a partner with our district and offer so many opportunities to our entire community to learn and grow. Joe was nominated by Mrs. Kathleen Woodman, SWS-MS Alternative Education Teacher at Aldrich Middle School.

The Secret in the Wings

Our Beloit Memorial High School theater department performed their fall play - The Secret in the Wings. This story explores several of Grimm's Fairy Tales framed by a little girl who has surprise babysitter with a tail! Our students put on four great performances.

Southern Lakes Conference Leadership Summit

BMHS proudly hosted the 3rd Annual Southern Lakes Conference Leadership Summit in November. The event was attended by student athletes, athletic directors, administrators, and coaches from all eight schools in the Southern Lakes Conference. The Keynote speaker was Travis Daugherty, founder and director of the Champions 101 sports performance and leadership development program.

Students Earn Welding Certifications

Congratulations to our BMHS Welding Students! Level 1 and 2 welding classes, earned their Miller Openbook certificates. Our graduates are career, college, and community ready!
