Winners Named in Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest

Winners have been selected from more than 100 entries for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Essay contest in the School District of Beloit.

The winners are:

Gaston Elementary: Caitlyn Tracy

Todd Elementary: Abigail Rohrbeck, Sean Arzie Leavy II

Aldrich Intermediate: Braelyn Andrea Mayfield, Meadow Mae Lailani Szoke

Cunningham Intermediate: Ayden Lakai Tyler

Fruzen Intermediate: Michael Nora, Gavin Sembhi, Zoe Anderson, Kaylee Miranda

McNeel Intermediate: Jaden Richardson, Madyson Miller, Kindalynn Lindley

Beloit Memorial High School: Jasmin Montes, Emily Jade Meade, Tatiana Carbajal

Participants wrote about the debate and conversation of people “taking a knee” during the National Anthem to bring awareness to the unjust treatment of minorities and others across the United States. In the essays, students discussed ways to bring awareness to the mistreatment of minorities and other social injustices. In the spirit of Dr. King’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech, students wrote about how to bring unity among all people.
