Beloit Memorial battles Elkhorn to 1-1 tie in SLC soccer
ELKHORN, Wis. — Beloit Memorial battled Elkhorn to a 1-1 tie Tuesday night, falling just short of its first Southern Lakes Conference title.
The Purple Knights finished a half-game behind Union Grove, which defeated Westosha Central on Tuesday.
Beloit scored first in the 19th minute as Abraham Perez found Banks Denu, who took a touch across the box and buried his 32nd goal of the season.
Elkhorn answered 5 minutes later as it gathered a loose ball and scored to tie the game.
“We played a much better second half than first half, but just couldn’t finish the few chances that we had,” Beloit head coach Brian Denu said.
The Knights finish the regular season at Verona on Thursday.
Beloit has its best seed in program history for the WIAA regionals, earning a No. 2 seed. The Knights will host Janesville Craig at 7 p.m. Oct. 21. The winner of that game will play the winner of Oregon-Sun Prairie West Oct. 25. If Beloit defeats Craig, the Knights would host the winner of the Oregon-Sun Prairie West game.
If Beloit wins its first two playoff games, it will also host the sectional semifinal on Oct. 25.
