Softball Recap: BMHS Girls Softball Purple Knights Take Down Wilmot 14-4

If Wilmot was riding high off their 15-0 takedown of Riverside University/Meir on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Wilmot Panthers lost 14-4 to the Beloit Memorial Purple Knights on Thursday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Wilmot of the 8-3 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture last Monday.

Wilmot saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madison Onstad, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Ellie Eggert was another key contributor, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

On Beloit Memorial's side, Rilynne Cleland made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Cleland has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive pitching appearances. Cleland was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5.

In other batting news, Beloit Memorial let Brooklynne Hereford-Foster and Jasmine Smith loose on the outfield. Hereford-foster scored a run while going 3-for-4, while Smith scored four runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Allie Gustafson, who went 2-for-5 with a home run.

Wilmot's loss dropped their record down to 3-12. As for Beloit Memorial, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wilmot will face off against Racine Case at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Beloit Memorial, they will head out on the road to challenge Delavan-Darien at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
