Beloit Memorial Girls Basketball Team Wins Season Opener
GLENDALE, Wis. — Lanasia Dubois, Jocelyn Tibbetts and Kamille Thomas combined for 63 points to lead Beloit Memorial’s girls to an 87-80 victory over Nicolet in their non-conference season opener Tuesday night.
Dubois led Beloit with 24 points, converting three treys. Tibbetts added 20 and Thomas chipped in 19. Sadera Richardson gave Beloit a fourth double-figure scorer with 10 points.
The Knights led at the half 28-27 and then exploded for 59 points in the second half. Jhalia Barber had all eight of her points in the second half.
• HONONEGAH 55, SOUTH ELGIN 19: In a game played at Huntley, the Indians’ second-half defense was nearly impenetrable. They allowed only three second-half points after leading at the half 31-16.
Hononegah trailed the Storm 5-4 at the outset of Tuesday’s contest, but back-to-back 3-pointers by Allyson Niedfeldt and Danielle Franz put the Indians in the lead for good.
Niedfeldt scored 18 of her team-high 20 points in the first half.
• BELOIT TURNER 62, WILLIAMS BAY 29: The Trojans got their season started with a bang as their hot-shooting offense and stingy defense helped them take down the visiting Bulldogs.
Turner jumped out to a 31-11 lead by halftime and scored another 31 points in the second half.
The Trojans’ defense prevent any Williams’ Bay shooter from hitting double-digits, with AnnMarie Cates scoring a team-high nine points.
Three different Turner players paced the scoring with Portia Segerstrom, Kaylee Kramer and Mariya Babilius, who hit three treys, all putting up 11 points. The Trojans were 12-for-24 from the free-throw line.
• WISCONSIN HEIGHTS 49, CLINTON 44: The Cougars came up just short in their non-conference opener at home Thursday.
Jocekyn Brabebder tallied 15 points and Sonja Severson chipped in 12 for the Vanguards, who led 26-25 at halftime.
Sophomore Lylah Peters was the lone Cougar in double figures with 15 points, including two 3-pointers. Clinton was 8-of-17 at the free-throw line where Wisconsin Heights was 12-of-20.
