Larry Schomber, a 1963 graduate of Memorial High School, and his wife Mary Kay decided to make a generous and unusual donation to the School District of Beloit. They decided to donate their 1980 Chevrolet Corvette to the automotive program at Memorial High School.
Together, Mary Kay and Larry have owned this car for over 35 years, they have just under 30,000 miles on it and decided it was time for them to downsize. After careful consideration they decided to donate this classic sports card to Larry's alma mater. The Schombers thought this would be a good way to give back to the community and a way to have this car be used as an educational tool for students in the automotive program.
According to John Hayes, automotive teacher at BMHS, the Corvette will be used as a learning tool and incentive for students to be able to work on it and see the inner workings of a classic American muscle car. Mr. Hayes says that they are absolutely thrilled that someone would make such a donation to his automotive program.
