School District of Beloit March 2023 Highlights

March All-Stars

Each quarter we honor and recognize our School District of Beloit All-Stars. These individuals are nominated by their peers for their passion, work, and dedication to our students and families. Congratulations to Samantha Anderson, Robin Bye, April Cazy-Bohr, Kristy Champion, Stacey Clark, Lindsay Fry, Gabriel Garza, Jennifer Heeren, Fiona Milchman, Kayla Pouros, Jennifer Silva, and Gary Wescott.

BMHS Art Students

Our talented art students were honored with regional and state awards.
𝐉𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐳𝐚 𝐑𝐨𝐬𝐚𝐬 𝐍𝐮𝐧𝐞𝐳 received a silver key for her six entries and three honorable mentions at the Scholastic Show.
𝐌𝐚𝐝𝐲𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐬 received the NASCO award for her Pumpkin at the WI Art Education Association Show.
𝐉𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐥𝐲𝐧 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐨 received an honorable mention at the Scholastic Show.
𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐚 𝐁𝐫𝐮𝐧𝐨 received the Best of Show (Top Prize) for her drawing 'Mother' at the Rockford Area High School Show, Blick Prize (2nd Place) for her drawing "Sister at Restaurant" at the WI Art Education Association Show, and Honorable Mentions for her drawing "Father" at the Scholastic Show.

State Conference

Several of our SDB staff members recently presented at the Wisconsin Society of Science Conference in Madison. Presentations included elementary science instruction, leading discourse in the science classroom, using science benchmark data, and leading change in science education. Thank you to our staff for sharing their expertise and experience with other educators.

Hackett Read Your Heart Out Week

Hackett Elementary hosted their annual Read Your Heart Out Week. Family and community members stopped in to read books to students and celebrate Black History Month. The week ended with an exciting performance from the Merrill Drummers and BMHS Knightingales

Mamma Mia!

Our talented High School Students performed several shows of their Spring Musical Mamma Mia! They rehearsed for several months to pull off an awesome, feel-good musical featuring some of ABBA’s greatest hits.

Soul Food Dinner

In honor of Black History Month, Robinson Elementary hosted its 7th Annual Soul Food Dinner event for more than 200 students, staff, and families. The keynote speaker was former Robinson Cougar Kyle Weaver! The audience also enjoyed live music by Michelle and Shu Che. Members of Robinson student council assisted with with set-up while staff served the soul food dinner prepared by Justin Cole. Thank you for everyone who contributed!

NPR Interview

Beloit Memorial High School students were visited and interviewed by the Wisconsin Public Radio Morning Show. Our students will be featured in an upcoming program about social media.

Scholastic Writing Awards

Congratulation to 𝐉𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐚 𝐆𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐞 and 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐞 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐬 for receiving regional Scholastic Writing Awards.
⭐️ Jakendra received an honorable mention for her poetry piece "Dear Humanity".
⭐️ Jakendra received an honorable mention for her fiction piece "Love or War"
⭐️ Charlotte received a Silver Key for her poetry piece "Movement"
