Beloit Memorial's boys soccer team opens with rout of East Troy

BELOIT — Beloit Memorial’s boys soccer team got the season off with a bang Tuesday night, scoring in bunches and knocking off visiting East Troy 12-0 at Jacobson Field.

Both John Anthony Aburto and Banks Denu celebrated, scoring hat tricks by the end of the first half.

Denu finished with four goals while Aburto, also a junior, had three.

The Purple Knights also collected two goals and two assists from junior Jared Barajas. Two Knights enjoyed their first career goals; junior Aiden Gibson and senior Diego Cortes Perez. Senior Miguel Aguilar also picked up a goal.

Junior Adan Munoz finished with two assists and Jesse Chavez-Bermudez also had an assist.

Goaltenders Paco Rebolledeo and Lucky Sanchez combined for the shutout with Sanchez making the only save.

“It was a good game to get started with as we were able to get everyone who was eligible and not injured a lot of playing time,” Beloit head coach Brian Denu said. “I was pleased with how everyone played. There will be different times this season where we will need guys to step up and tonight was significant for a lot of guys to gain some confidence.”

The Knights travel to Eau Claire on Thursday to face DC Everest in the afternoon and then face Green Bay Preble on Friday morning.

“This will be another great opportunity for the kids to bond while getting to see some much stiffer competition,” Denu said.
