Preparing for the PSAT, ACT, PLAN, SAT

Even if you are planning on taking only the ACT test, please check out all the sites listed. Each site gives tips and techniques that will help you do better on any test.

The ACT is the preferred college entrance exam for Wisconsin schools. You do not need the ACT if you plan on attending Blackhawk Tech. The PLAN test is a practice test for the ACT. The PSAT is the practice test for the SAT. It is also the test to take to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program. See our "Important Dates" page for testing dates and deadlines.

VERBAL SECTIONS

A series of paragraphs where you will be asked to identify and correct words/sections.

Includes analogies, sentence completion, and critical reading. Tough vocabulary.

In the reading passages you will be asked to locate facts and verify information; kind like if you were researching a term paper.

In the reading sections you'll have to grasp the concept and draw relationships. You need to be good at interpretation.

MATH SECTIONS

Includes algebra, geometry, trigonometry, quadratic formula, graphs and equations of circles, ellipses, and parabolas.

Algebra, geometry, probability and logical reasoning. More emphasis on manipulating information

All questions multiple choice. Concepts and formulas should be memorized so you can apply them.

Questions are multiple choice, fill in answer, and quantitative comparisons.

You may be able to register on-line at some of these sites. Some sites have test prep techniques and "question of the day" features.
