Question: What is a quick 50?
Answer:
The quick fifty is a school safety program run in all schools in Beloit.
This program allows a student to give information about weapons or drugs,
including alcohol, and remain anonymous. The student would then receive a
reward of $50 for this information.
Question: Have you ever arrested anybody in the schools?
Answer:
Unfortunately there have been situations in which I have had to make
arrests in the schools. I am not able to discuss the details of the arrests,
including who got arrested. I would like to note that this is my least
favorite part of being a School Resource Officer.
Question: What would you recommend to a parent who knows their child
is not going to go to school?
Answer:
I would get a hold of the school staff and advise them of the situation.
I would work with the school to try to get him or her to the school. I would
then finally contact Juvenile Probation, which might have already been done
by the SRO, to get the child placed on probation. One thing to remember is
that I will not cite a parent who is working with the school or me to get
the child to school.
Question: If you have a bad history with someone outside of school
say you arrested them or something and they went to McNeel or Aldrich and
they got in trouble at school but claim they did not commit the "crime" they
supposedly committed, would that influence whether you believe them or not?
Answer:
No, I look at each case independently. I base my decisions on the facts
of each case and then decide the appropriate action to be taken.
Question: If a student accidentally took a knife or something out of
class and did not know it then later found it and attempted to turn it in
could he/she get expelled?
Answer:
You are actually talking about two different issues. First is the
removing of the property, second is the weapon possession. The most
appropriate thing to do is to return the item that was taken to the teacher,
and then explain what had happened. This will work for all items.
If you accidentally bring something inappropriate to school, like a weapon,
you need to find the first staff member and turn it over to them. If you do
this you will not get into trouble.
Question: How are you doing?
Answer:
Thank you for asking. I am fine, but very busy working in both McNeel
and Aldrich Middle Schools again this year.
Question: Hi I was wondering if you have ever arrested kids at McNeel
Answer:
It is unfortunate, but the answer to that question is yes.
Question: At school have you ever had to take your gun out on a
student?
Answer:
No, thank goodness that has not occurred.
Question: Have you ever had to pull a gun on a student or an adult in
a school?
Answer:
There seems to be a lot of interest in if I have used or pointed my
weapon in school. The simple answer to that question is no. I can also tell
you that the only tool I have used on my belt are my handcuffs. The tool
that I use to the most is my pen to write tickets.
Question: What grade of Students has the most people having to come
to you for bad reasons?
Answer:
I would have to say that it is equal across the board for all grades.
