Fruits & Vegetables

More students in more schools throughout Wisconsin will be crunching on carrots or snacking on grapes while they learn the importance of eating fresh produce. The popular Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program is back, and has been expanded to 56 schools in Wisconsin for the 2008-09 school year, including Wright and Hackett Elementary Schools in Beloit.

The wonderful aspect of this grant program is that it allows participating schools to offer fresh produce to all students in addition to the nutritious meals provided through the school breakfast and school lunch programs.

The Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008, also referred to as the federal farm bill, permanently authorized the program nationwide.
