Focus on Learning

Gifted and Talented Programming Model

The focus of the Gifted and Talented Program Model in the School District of Beloit is on learning.  All students receive research-based, high quality, education in the classroom.  Educators use ongoing assessment to monitor progress, and to make instructional decisions for students.  Gifted education services may change as student needs change over time.

The School District of Beloit uses the Response to Intervention (RtI) model and a screening process to identify students for Gifted and Talented Program services.  A student may be considered fro Gifted and Talented Program services at any point in his or her school career.  Students begin this process when standardized test scores indicate a student should be investigated further or when parent(s)/guardian(s) or an educator competes a Gifted Education Referral form.

Once a student enters the process, the GT staff works to create a student profile.  The profile contains information from assessments, teacher inventories, parent inventories, student portfolios, and nomination forms.  The district Gifted and Talented Screening Committee reviews the information contained in the student profile for multiple indicators of the need for gifted and talented services.  In the areas of General Intellectual and Specific Academics we are looking for evidence of exceptional performance.

When a child is recommended by the Gifted and Talented Screening Committee parent(s)/guardian(s) will be notified of the recommendation and have the opportunity to discuss services.

Referrals

Parents or educators may request that a student be considered for gifted and talented programming by submitting a referral form listed below.  Parents, to access the referral form please go to the Login Registration to set up an account. Staff, please log in with your Novell credentials.
